Hackney Gelato is the brainchild of Enrico and Sam, combining Italian and English artisanship to create London’s best genuinely Italian gelato.
The pair met while working at the Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli, and soon realised that they share a passion for communal eating and the joys of delicious meals, fine wines and fabulous desserts. After working together in venues across the city, they bemoaned the standard and availability of proper gelato in London, and decided to do something about it.
They embarked on a tour of Sicily, Calabria, Puglia and Basilicata, learning the secrets of how to make truly high-quality gelato from the Italian masters of the craft. Returning to London, they put what they had learned into practice, launching Hackney Gelato in the heart of East London’s buzzing creative community.
Enrico and Sam have strived to add an English twist to classic recipes, while still rooting their creations in the best Italian traditions: prime ingredients, exciting flavours and the highest quality.
Our mission is to bring the best traditional Italian gelato to the heart of London, where it has been sorely lacking for far too long.
We work with both English and Italian flavours, but our methods are strictly traditional. We hand-make everything (no ready-made powders), and we fine-tune the base for each flavour to enhance the taste and get the perfect texture.
We use only the best prime ingredients: milk and cream from grass-fed British cows, artisanal ingredients from Italy, and whole or freshly squeezed fruit (no purees or pasteurised juices).
We’re always looking for exciting combinations to increase our repertoire. If there’s a flavour you’d like to try, we'll move heaven and earth to make it, and make it delicious.
